Black Desert has a total of 22 different classes available for play.

Whether you prefer wearing plate armor, swinging mighty axes, casting dark magics, striking enemies from the shadows, or unleashing a barrage of ranged attacks with bows, each class offers a distinct edge that satisfies the points of interests of most, if not all, Adventurers out there!

Black Desert also offers different avenues of growth for each of its classes through Succession or Awakening.

Succession & Awakening

The journey through Black Desert is said to begin only after an Adventurer chooses Succession or Awakening. You can take your Black Desert experience to new heights by getting a better understanding of your class prior to choosing which path you wish to take.

What is Succession / Awakening?

Once an Adventurer reaches level 56 with their character, you can choose between Succession or Awakening. This will determine the weapons and skills that will be available for each character.

If you choose Succession, you will continue playing with the same combat system as you did before.

If you choose Awakening, you will find yourselves wielding a new type of weapon known as an Awakening Weapon, which gives you the option to explore a whole new style of gameplay.

What to choose: Succession or Awakening?

After an Adventurer settles on a class, you won’t need to worry about choosing between Succession or Awakening.

Even if you haven’t yet decided on taking up Succession or Awakening, you can choose after playing with both states. Once you’ve completed both the Succession and Awakening questlines, you can switch between the two states by resetting your character’s skill points.

Selecting a Class of Your Preference

Once you’ve understood Succession and Awakening, the only thing left is to choose a class before you begin your journey through Black Desert!
