Processing
There is various Life type content available in the Black Desert.
You could harvest potatoes or corn from the farm, or go fishing down the waterside.
You can cut down trees and gather logs or collect sap, or shoot down birds that are causing damage to the crops or marine products.
You can also acquire hides and meat from the game you hunt.
From these resources, you can craft various items and even the specialty of each town for use in trading.
Processing
The production side of the content available in the Black Desert is composed of 8 areas that include Gathering, Processing, Cooking, Training, Alchemy, Fishing, Hunting and Trading.
Of these, ‘Processing’ is the act of changing the properties or form of the materials through simple procedures.
Processing may sound similar to ‘Cooking’ or ‘Alchemy’ in the sense that various materials are used to produce a product, but there’s a difference.
The output of Processing is not the complete end product, but it is used as an advanced material for other crafts such as Cooking and Alchemy.
Open the Processing window (L) and select the type, and then insert the required items to start Processing.
However, you must have at least 2 free slots in your inventory and you must not be under the heavy state.
Although Processing does not have any special requirements for the most part, there are some that are affected by the weather such as ‘Dry’ that can only be done on clear days and ‘Filtering’ that requires wind. ‘Repair’, which is carried out indoors, requires that you have an anvil at your residence.
Items made through Processing are used as materials for Cooking, Alchemy, or crafting equipment.
▲ Open the Processing window (Keyboard ‘L’ Key) and choose a Processing method.
Some Processing methods have certain requirements. For example, ‘Dry’ can only be done on clear days.
▲ ‘Right-click’ to select the desired materials from you inventory then click the start button to begin Processing.
Types of Processing
▲ Select the desired type of processing from the Processing window.
Knowledge acquired through Processing will become active in the Processing Knowledge list, and you will be able to check the recipe for these.
Shaking
Mix two materials to acquire a new form of material
Usually used to mix water and a cooking ingredient that has undergone primary processing to acquire dough.
Grinding
Powder and juice materials can be obtained by grinding the ingredients in a mortar.
Usually used to grind grains to acquire grain powder, or to remove the impurities from a rough metal to make it more valuable.
Chopping
Refine a tree into various types of materials.
Most trees can be refined into a better form through Chopping.
Dry
Only available on clear days. Removes moisture from the material and turns it into a softer, easy to handle material.
Used to dry fish or meat for long term storage, or to refine a hide.
Filtering
Only available when the wind is blowing. Use a sifter to sort out the valuable materials out of a dense pack.
It is very effective to thin out feathers.
Heating
Melt an object with strong fire power and transform it into a new material.
Besides the obvious use with metals, this can be used to transform some useless looking items to make them valuable.
Also used to melt accessories.
Repair
Can be done in front of the anvil within a residence. Can freely repair equipment that has lost durability.
You can only repair one piece of equipment at a time, but you can have a character repair something and switch to another character.
The original character will be displayed as ‘in repair’.
Simple Alchemy
A processing method to carry out simple alchemy.
Produce a product by combining simple ingredients without the need for an alchemy tool.
Usually used to combine herbs and mineral water to create herbal juice.
Simple Cooking
Can do simple cooking outside without any cooking utensils.
Usually used to combine grain and mineral water to create grain juice.
The more diverse and delicious range of food made by cooking is not possible through Simple Cooking: cooking utensils need to be used.
Mass Processing from Storage
You can’t carry out Processing when your weight reaches 100%, so it is difficult to do Mass Processing with all the materials inside your inventory.
In these situations, you can equip the Venecil Dress Set or Karki Suit Set to be able to do Mass Processing with the materials that are stored in Storage.
▲ Equip the Venecil Dress Set or Karki Suit Set.
Talk to the Storage Keeper, and you will see the [Processing] button at the bottom of the Storage window.
The Processing window will become active when you click the Processing button, and you can use the materials in Storage for processing.
The Processing will continue as long as you have enough materials within your Storage.
However, as you receive the product into your inventory,
Processing will halt once you’ve exceeded 100% weight as a result of acquiring the processing products.
Processing Level
You can more efficiently carry out Processing with a higher Processing Level.
This is because you receive more products, even when you’re processing the same materials.
The success rate of Processing is also increased.
There is also a chance you will acquire a product at a higher grade.
For example, when you’re Heating Iron Ores with a high Processing Level, you will not only receive Melted Iron Shards, but also have a chance to acquire Iron Ingot.
Processing Success Rate
▲ System Message you will often see while Processing
There is a chance for Processing to fail. In these cases, you can either wear Processing Costumes or use food and elixirs to increase the success rate.
Learning the Advanced Processing Knowledge
To craft a higher grade item using Processing, you will not only need the special materials crafted through Alchemy (Metal Solvent, Plywood Hardener, etc.), but you will also need the Beginner and/or Skilled Knowledge (Certificates) to craft that respective product.
If you try and process the item without the relevant Knowledge, then you will not be able to get any product from the processing.
The Beginner Certificate can be acquired by a player with Apprentice Lv. 4 or higher
by accepting and completing the quests from the NPCs listed below.
However, your preferred type of quests must include the Life Skill option in order to be able to accept the quest,
Therefore, it is advised that you examine whether the “All” option is selected before talking to the NPC.
▲ You may not be able to receive the quest if the “All” option is not selected for the preferred quest type.
